Review of Peapack and Gladstone, New Jersey

Overview
Star Rating - 7/18/2007
Home of the U.S. Equestrian Team, the Borough of Peapack & Gladstone, is two villages incorporated in 1912 into a single municipality. An exurban village of approximately 2400 residents nestled in the heart of hunt country in the Northern corner of Somerset County, it has seen moderate development over the years since then while remaining rural in character and a desireable place to live. It is within easy access to New York City by rail, bus and major highways.
It is home to long-time business residents such as Komline Sanderson Corporation, the headquarters of the Peapack and Gladstone Bank, the oldest independent bank in Somerset County, the Matheny Medical and Educational Center, and more recently a major facility of Pfizer Corporation. Four critically acclaimed local restaurants offer fine dining at reasonable prices.
Children are transported to an excellent elementary school in nearby Bedminster and to neighboring Bernardsville's highly respected high school.
The Borough is governed by a Mayor elected at large for a four year term and a six member Borough Council elected for three year terms. The terms are staggered so that two members' terms expire at the end of each year. In addition to the ten person Police Department and eight person Public Works Department, the Borough has its own Volunteer Fire Company founded in 1905, a Volunteer First Aid and Rescue Squad founded in 1935, and its own Library, a branch of the Somerset County Library System.
